FEMA, U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) & ASHLIN Collaboration- Job Corps Advanced Emergency Management Training Program Launch!
ASHLIN is pleased to report that it played an instrumental role in facilitating a collaboration between FEMA and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to create the Job Corps Advanced Emergency Management Training Program. This program consists of approximately 12 weeks of training during which Job Corps students will build their capacity to become mission-ready site inspectors and emergency management specialists helping people before, during and after disasters.
ASHLIN served as the project management team for the new program under its Support Services contract with the DOL/Office of Job Corps. In that capacity, ASHLIN coordinated an interagency effort to develop an implementation plan, design curriculum, recruit students, and establish metrics for success. The project was challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, which required Job Corps to shift its nationwide network of training facilities to distance learning. Despite the constraint, the program was successfully launched in December of 2020, and the first cohort of students is scheduled to move into emergency management positions at the national, state, and local levels in Spring of 2021.
